Gizmo Residency Program
Gizmo offers its competitive Maker in Residence program to artists, designers and entrepreneurs to help advance and realize innovative new ideas.
Makers in Residence receive a space to store things, stipend and access to Gizmo’s 9000+ square foot co-working / fabrication space on the North Idaho College campus. Gizmo awards six Maker in Residence opportunities per year through a rolling application process.

Expectations of Makers in Residence:
Application and Selection:
Accepted applicants will receive notification of selection by email. Selected Makers in Residence will have 72 hours to accept the offer; afterward the offer will be extended to the runner up. The offer will include proposed residency dates.

- Makers in Residence receive 2 months free membership valued at $110/month.
- Makers in Residence will be issued a 24/7 access key-card for the duration of their residency.
- Makers in Residence receive a $500 stipend to use towards classes and/or mentoring at Gizmo and/or materials specific to residency project.
- Following the appropriate safety training, Makers in Residence have access to fully equipt metal, wood, creative arts, micro-electronics, computer lab, laser cutter and rapid-prototyping facilities.
- Makers in Residence have access to the member community consisting of engineers, developers, crafters, entrepreneurs and passionate artists and creators spanning a wide variety of fields.
- Gizmo does NOT provide housing for Makers in Residence
Expectations of Makers in Residence:
- Makers in Residence are expected to document their project with photos and video throughout the 2 months and do a presentation of their project and process to the public following their residency period.
- Makers in Residence are expected to email photos/video, with descriptions, to Gizmo staff on a weekly basis, for social media content.
- Makers in Residence are expected to take the appropriate tool trainings a month in advance of their residency period.
- Makers in Residence are expected to integrate a variety of Gizmo tools and machines into their main residency medium.
- Makers in Residence are expected to use their stipends for educational opportunities at Gizmo and/or materials. Receipts must be submitted for reimbursement. *We are very adamant that this stipend be used to learn the tools at Gizmo or to purchase necessary materials for your projects.
- Makers in Residence are expected to work independently.
- Makers in Residence are expected to work onsite as much as possible to realize their project, and to help build community at Gizmo.
- Makers are asked to either lead or assist in a class at Gizmo.
Application and Selection:
- The application requests potential Makers in Residence to supply; contact information, a project proposal (500 word maximum), 5 images of relevant past work and a C.V with two professional references.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed bimonthly.
- Applications from outside the Gizmo community are highly encouraged.
- Proposals are evaluated for their innovation, their use of Gizmo resources, their feasibility, and their potential for positive impact.
