Re-Make The Learning Experience
Professional Development Opportunities at Gizmo
Introducing a new three-part professional development series: Citizen Science and Pocket Labs. These workshops are adaptively designed for K-12 educators of any subject who are looking to integrate student-centered, project-based STEM learning opportunities in their classroom. Take a workshop on its own, or complete all three workshops in the series to qualify for a professional development credit through the University of Idaho. (Information about obtaining a credit will be provided during the workshop. Separate fees apply.) Workshops meet Thursday evenings from 4:30-5:30pm PT / 5:30-6:30pm MT, on Zoom.
INTRODUCTION TO CITIZEN SCIENCE
Zoom Meeting Dates: Thurs. Dec. 8 & 15, 4:30-5:30pm PT Join fellow educators for a "mini PD" exploring strategies for engaging students in meaningful learning through Citizen Science. Educators in this workshop will learn what Citizen Science is and how it can be used as a vehicle for Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the K-12 classroom. You will also learn about curriculum and resources for practicing Citizen Science with students, available for free through the NASA GLOBE program. All participants will receive a materials kit valued at approximately $50 to aid in the implementation of citizen science in the classroom. Cost: $110 / Idaho public educators automatically qualify for a $100 scholarship through the Idaho STEM Action Center Click here to learn more and register now. |
INTRODUCTION TO POCKETLAB LEARNING SYSTEM
Zoom Meeting Dates: Thurs. Feb. 2 & 9, 4:30-5:30pm PT In this "mini PD," educators will learn to use the PocketLab learning system to augment student engagement in Citizen Science. Empower your students with data tools and processes that mirror the work of professional scientists, and learn how to operate Gizmo's own classroom set of sensors, available through our Lending Library program. Participants will also receive their own PocketLab Thermo comparative temperature probe to use in classroom activities. Cost: $110 / Idaho public educators automatically qualify for a $100 scholarship through the Idaho STEM Action Center Click here to learn more and register now. |
CITIZEN SCIENCE IN NON-SCIENCE DISCIPLINES
Zoom Meeting Dates: Thurs. Apr. 13 & 20, 4:30-5:30pm PT In this "mini PD," educators will explore Citizen Science as an approach for integrating Project-Based Learning (PBL) in non-science disciplines. This workshop is geared toward both the non-science educator looking to integrate STEM and PBL within their content area, as well as the science educator looking to develop interdisciplinary projects. Participants will receive a resource kit, valued at approximately $50, designed to help them implement workshop strategies in the classroom.
