Gizmo has a number of unique opportunities for college students looking to get involved at the makerspace:
Student Membership
Students receive a 25% discount on a monthly Tinker Membership at the makerspace, making the cost $36 a month. Members at Gizmo have access to a variety of tools and equipment for making including a woodshop, machine shop, welding equipment, 3D printers, sewing machines, laser cutters, small electronics lab and more. Note: Members must be trained and certified on any equipment prior to use. The discounted Student Membership includes up to 8 hours of Tool Time monthly. (Time spent working in the Clay Studio, at tables, in the computer lab or with personal equipment does not count against Tool Time.) Students enrolled in any collegiate degree-granting or certificate program are eligible for the student rate. Discount does not apply to any higher membership tiers at the makerspace. Click here to learn more about Membership at Gizmo.
Scholarship Program
Gizmo is pleased to offer scholarships for locally enrolled college students to try a class or one-on-one mentoring session at Gizmo at no cost. Eligible students are those enrolled in any degree or certificate program at North Idaho College, LC State Coeur d’Alene, University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene or Boise State University in North Idaho. Students may apply one time for a scholarship to cover the cost of either a) a scheduled class of any length (single or multi session) or b) two hours of one-on-one mentoring on the tool/process of your choice (subject to mentor availability). Students may apply for a scholarship using our online form, available by clicking here. The Student Scholarship Program is made possible through the generous support of NIC’s Student Service Task Force.
