Gizmo's Mobile
Think · Make · Create Labs
Gizmo is pleased to make ready-to-implement STEM activities from our Think, Make Create (TMC) trailer available for check-out to local educators. To be eligible, educators must attend a one-time, 90-minute TMC Facilitator training at Gizmo, and plan to implement the activity with six or more students. Choose from over 50 hands-on, inquiry-based, standards-aligned activities, tell us the number of participating students, and let us do the prep work for you! Students keep their projects – simply return any equipment and consumables you don’t use. Scroll down to learn more about how it works.
Hands-on activities for young people to explore...
How It Works
1) Attend a TMC Facilitator Training with Gizmo-CdA or the Idaho Out-of-School Network
Learn strategies for leading hands-on activities with your students and adapting TMC curriculum to suit your particular students' needs. Evening trainings are scheduled monthly at Gizmo -- see the next training date here. Trainings are free for public educators (including public school, library and non-profit program staff) and $15 for all other participants.
Schools or organizations with five or more educators interested in attending may schedule a private training. Please email alayna@gizmo-cda.org if you are interested in this option.
Twice a year, during the fall and spring, the Idaho Out-of-School Network offers a full-day TMC Labs training for out-of-school enrichment providers who want to dive deeper into the curriculum and build their confidence facilitating STEM activities with youth. Educators who attend this training are automatically eligible for the Bin Check-Out program. The next ION training will be held Monday Nov. 20th at Gizmo from 9am-3pm -- click here to register.
2) Request an Activity
Once trained, educators may make an activity bin request any time using the TMC Bin Check-Out Request Form. Prior to making your request, you may view available activities and preview curriculum in the TMC Activity Gallery. In order to allow enough time for us to prepare materials, we kindly ask that requests be submitted at least a week in advance.
3) Pick Up Your Bin
Bins can be picked up at Gizmo-CdA any time during operating hours: Tuesday-Thursday 1pm-9pm, Friday-Saturday: 10am-5pm
4) Run the Activity with Your Students
The fun part! After the activity is done, be sure to let us know how it went by filling out the TMC Usage Report.
5) Return Bin to Gizmo
Return the bin and curriculum to Gizmo, along with any tools and unused consumables. Students are welcomed to keep what they make -- but if they won't be keeping them, feel free to throw them in the bin so we can repurpose the materials.
